About Highland Farms Logging, LLC
SINCE 1886
Highland Farms was established in 1886, in Cornish, Maine, by our ancestors, David C. Pike and his two sons, Wyer and Fred. They began with purchasing their first registered Jersey cow from the Blanchard family farm in Cumberland Center. To this day, Highland Farms holds the distinction of being the oldest, continuously registered, Jersey herd in the U.S.
Our farm has expanded, over the course of the last 132 years, to having 500 registered Jersey cows. 250 of these bovines are milked twice a day. Highland Farms Dairy is a member of the Agri-Mark Cooperative which ships its fresh milk to H.P. Hood and other locations in New England. Cabot Cheese is one of its subsidiaries.
Highland was named the New England Green Pastures winner, for Maine, in 2017. Our farming family has received numerous awards over the years. Overall, we have been honored for the conservation of 850 acres of woodland, contour farming of 400 acres of cropland, the leadership of the Jersey cattle breed, and, most of all, preservation of the family dairy farm.
Now owned by family members David Pike, Dan Palmer, Libby Bleakney, and Lorie Pike, our companies include Highland Farms, Inc., Highland Farms Logging, LLC, Highland Farms Dairy, LLC, and Highland Farms Trucking, LLC.
In 1980, David Pike wanted to expand the farm’s operations, and future, by becoming involved in the logging business. So, Highland purchased its first skidder that year and David and Dan went conventional logging. Over the last 38 years, David has continued to expand this business by becoming mechanized.
Currently, the 4th, 5th, and 6th generations are working on the farm together. The 7th generation is growing up at Highland and already taking part.
With his son, Chad Pike, and long-time employee, Brad Parker, David has assembled a dedicated, honest, hard-working crew. A member of the Professional Logging Contractors of Maine and a Master Logger, David Pike is a leader in this profession.
